Dr. Diktaban is an experienced plastic surgeon who takes every factor into consideration to give his patients the best possible results. One of these factors is racial or ethnic background, specifically for Asian patients. Dr. Diktaban’s Asian breast augmentation is a specialized cosmetic procedure that ensures beautiful results for his patients of Asian descent.
How is Asian Breast Augmentation Different?
Asian breast augmentation is similar to traditional breast augmentation, but there are a couple different things that Dr. Diktaban will keep in mind:
Scarring
Patients of Asian descent are prone to keloid scarring, which forms as thick and/or dark scars. These can distract the eye from the beautiful new appearance of your breasts, so Dr. Diktaban will take special care to hide your incisions. For an Asian breast augmentation, a transaxillary incision (incision in the underarm) is used. Once healed, your incision will be hidden in the natural folds of your armpit, which is an area not easily visible.
Body Proportions
Asian women are often shorter and more petite than Caucasian women. If large breast implants are used, the chest could look abnormally large and disproportionate to the rest of the patient’s features. Although a medium sized breast implant might not create desired fullness for Caucasian women, it will look larger on Asian women of petite stature.
Why Does Asian Skin Scar Differently?
Asian skin has higher amounts of melanin, giving it a darker complexion than Caucasian skin. The high quantity of melanin makes Asian patients more susceptible to hyperpigmentation that comes with scarring. Asian skin is also more delicate and is therefore more at risk for keloid or hypertrophic scarring. These are raised scars that are more noticeable and might not fade as well.
Preparing for Asian Breast Augmentation
Every surgical procedure with Dr. Diktaban starts with a consultation. He will ask questions about your medical history and overall health and will discuss the results you hope to achieve. He will also discuss your options for saline or silicone implants and can give you different-sized implants to “try on.”
Although the transaxillary incision is the most commonly used technique for his Asian breast augmentation, other surgical options can be discussed. Dr. Diktaban will be happy to answer any questions you might have and address your concerns about a surgical procedure.
