Male Liposuction Surgery

If you’ve tried losing weight, you know that achieving a chiseled, masculine look isn’t as easy as anyone makes it out to be. Even when you reach your goal weight, it’s normal to be frustrated with stubborn pockets of fat that don’t seem to respond to your diet and exercise program. Fortunately, liposuction remains one of the best options for contouring your favorite areas and removing fatty pockets that get in the way of your ideal body.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a mini-surgery designed to remove fatty pockets from different areas of the body using small incisions, a cannula, and surgical vacuum. Once the fatty tissue is removed, the individual cells can no longer swell with weight gain, meaning men can enjoy long-term results. Traditional liposuction simply removes fat cells while some specialized techniques can also tighten loose skin through gentle heat and laser energy.

Liposuction Candidates

Men who benefit most from liposuction are those within ten pounds of their goal weight with stubborn pockets of fat. Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery, but can rather help you lose inches in areas where diet and exercise don’t produce results. It’s important that your weight is stable for at least a few months so that you won’t be subject to weight fluctuations that can affect your results. This also helps ensure that you have healthy habits in place that you can maintain after your recovery is complete.

What Happens During Liposuction?

Your liposuction procedure can be performed at our state-of-the-art facility. Traditional liposuction requires a tumescent solution, which includes a mixture of local anesthetics and medications to shrink blood vessels and reduce bleeding. Once injected into the area, Dr. Diktaban will perform a tiny incision at the treatment site. Then, a specialized cannula with a surgical vacuum attached is inserted. Using a gentle sweeping motion, Dr. Diktaban will break up the fat for easier removal. Finally, the incisions are closed, and you’ll have a surgical compression garment placed over the area.

If you opt for radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL), then a tiny, pen-sized handpiece is used to liquefy the fat for easier removal. The treatment then proceeds similarly, and you can return home.

Results and Recovery

Most men take a few days off of work for recovery after liposuction, although this can depend on the nature of your job. Most swelling and bruising will go down after one or two weeks, but your final results can take between three and six months to emerge. Any pain or discomfort can generally be managed with prescribed medications, which can also help with swelling. You’ll wear a compression garment according to Dr. Diktaban’s aftercare instructions; this both keeps swelling down and helps the skin adhere to the new contours. Dr. Diktaban will ensure you know your best timeframe for returning to your exercise regimen— you should count on at least a few weeks before returning to your full intensity. Once you’re fully recovered, you can enjoy slim, contoured results in your favorite areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does liposuction require general anesthesia?

Generally, liposuction does not require you to go under general anesthesia. Dr. Diktaban prefers to use a tumescent solution or local cocktail anesthetic so that you’re comfortable, but won’t have to recover from the side effects of general anesthesia. This can drastically cut down on your recovery time.

What areas do men get liposuction on?

Some of the most common areas where men opt for liposuction include the jaw and chin, the calves, stomach, chest, thighs, arms, and hips. These are areas that men commonly accumulate stubborn fat, and Dr. Diktaban can tailor the right treatment plan for you based on your specific goals.

Will I have scars after liposuction?

Any procedure that requires incisions— even tiny ones— has a chance of scarring. However, liposuction incisions are very small and Dr. Diktaban can optimize their location so that they’re easily concealable within your regular outfits. If visible scarring is a concern, Dr. Diktaban can discuss your options for scar treatments after your procedure.

What is laser liposuction?

Laser liposuction is an advanced liposuction technique that comes with some benefits over traditional liposuction. Firstly, it can liquefy fat for easier removal. Secondly, this process generates gentle heat which can contract the deep layers of the skin and stimulate collagen production. Together, this process essentially “shrink wraps” the skin for enhanced results.
