Forehead Lift Surgery

The brow is one of the first places that aging begins to show in some patients. If you feel that people mistake you for being tired, angry, or worn out because of a sagging brow, a brow lift is one of the best options available. You can enjoy a smoother, more rejuvenated brow without an unnatural, “surprised” look – especially in the hands of our double board certified plastic surgeon in Manhattan.

What is the Brow Lift?

The brow lift is a facial plastic surgery procedure that smooths and rejuvenates the upper face. As you age, it’s normal for the brow to sink lower on the face and even hang over the eyes. The brow lift restores this skin and tissues to a more upright position, smoothing lines and achieving a more alert, awake look. It can also be a way for patients with a naturally low or heavy brow line to enjoy a more balanced facial profile.

Types of Brow Lifts

Endoscopic Brow Lift

An endoscopic brow lift is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local  or general anesthesia. During the procedures, Dr. Diktaban makes a series of small incisions that are hidden in the hair. He then gently releases, moves and elevates the brow tissue. The incisions are then closed. The healing process with this type of brow lift is generally faster and involves less bruising.  There are no visible scars, hair loss or loss of forehead/scalp sensation.

Lateral/Temporal Brow Lift

A temporal lift is a minimally invasive procedure where changes are made to the forehead and the lateral brow is lifted at the same time. It’s often performed under local anesthesia and one-inch incisions are made behind the hairline.

Because it’s done under local anesthesia, there is very minimal downtime.

Lateral Brow Lift Through Upper Eyelid

A lateral brow lift through the upper eyelid allows for the removal of excess skin in the upper eyelid and the lifting of the eyebrow at the same time. This corrects hooded eyelids and smooth crow’s feet along with lifting the eyebrow. The incision is made through the upper eyelid and after it’s closed, it’s mostly hidden by the natural crease structure of the eye and eyelid.

Endotine Device Brow Lift

The Endotine device brow lift gives Dr. Diktaban the ability to adjust your forehead position and lift your brow to a natural position. This is done through a few very small incisions behind your hairline. The procedure can also be used to soften any creases between the eyebrows and along the forehead. It’s often done using local, IV sedation or general anesthesia.

Procedures Combined with a Brow Lift

A brow lift can easily be combined with other facial procedures for added rejuvenation.

Facelift

Combining a brow lift with your facelift can address each area of the face for more proportionate, even results. A facelift addresses loose, sagging skin on the mid-face and lower face. A brow lift can additionally target the forehead and eyes to further enhance your results.

Eyelid Lift

A combined brow lift and eyelid lift is a great way to rejuvenate the entire eye area. While a brow lift focuses on forehead lines and a drooping brow, the eyelid lift targets sagging upper eyelid skin and/or under-eye bags and dark circles. You can open up and lift the eyes for a more alert, refreshed appearance.

Injectables

Fillers and injectables can be used to smooth fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes or other areas of the face. We offer a range of neuromodulators (botulinum toxin injectables) and dermal fillers to enhance the cheekbones, fill in nasolabial folds (smile lines), define the jawline, and more!

Brow Lift Candidates

Patients who can benefit most from a brow lift are those who have deep forehead lines, sagging brows, frown lines, or hooded upper eyelids. Some brow lift patients have tried non-surgical methods like Botox or AccuTite to smooth and lift the brow but no longer see the results they’d hoped for. In this case, the brow lift is a reasonable next step. During a consultation with Dr. Diktaban, you will discuss your medical history to ensure the brow lift is the safest and most effective option for your cosmetic goals.

What Happens During a Brow Lift?

Dr. Diktaban performs the brow lift at our certified, in-house surgical suite. The brow lift is most commonly performed using cocktail anesthesia to reduce downtime while still ensuring you’re comfortable. There are a few brow lift incisions that can be used, and Dr. Diktaban will help you determine the appropriate option during your consultation. The brow lift can also be combined with other facial plastic surgery procedures like the facelift or eyelid lift. Once incisions have been made, Dr. Diktaban can lift the skin and tissues of the brow to a higher position and trim away any excess skin. Finally, the incisions are closed, and after a brief monitoring period by our team, you can return home.

Results and Recovery

A brow lift typically requires 1-2 weeks away from work and strenuous activity. It’s normal to experience swelling and discomfort but Dr. Diktaban and our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions and follow up on how to best care for your surgical site. It’s most important to keep your head elevated while sleeping and resting, as well as avoid elevating your heart rate. Dr. Diktaban will provide a personalized recovery timeframe so you can plan your recovery period accordingly.

It can take 2-3 weeks for most swelling to subside and your results to begin to emerge. However, it can take 1-2 months for final results to emerge. The brow lift produces long-term results, meaning you can enjoy your smoother, more refreshed look for years to come.

Cocktail Anesthesia

Cocktail anesthesia is Dr. Diktaban’s preferred tool for ensuring your procedure is relaxing and low-risk. Dr. Diktaban has used cocktail anesthesia for surgical procedures for over 10 years with resounding success. Patients are safe and comfortable during the entire procedure. It is predictable and consistent for men and women of all ages. There are no IVs or any tubes down your nose or throat. Patients describe the experience as “floating comfortably”. Patients are even allowed and instructed to have a light breakfast before coming to the office for their procedure. The cocktail anesthesia entails the ingestion of a few pills followed by two medicine injections into the arm. One big advantage with cocktail anesthesia is that during body contouring procedures, the patients are able to turn their body into different positions that enables Dr. Diktaban to sculpt their bodies in an enhanced manner. The following list of procedures can be performed under cocktail anesthesia: browlifts, facelifts, eyelid lifts, necklifts, liposuction, BBLs (buttock enlargement), fat transfer to the breasts, breast lifts, FaceTite, AccuTite, and BodyTite.  Learn more about how cocktail anesthesia can transform your surgical experience during your consultation.
