Buccal Fat Removal

Buccal fat is the fat pads in your cheeks that give your face fullness. The size of the buccal fat pad varies among different people and if they are too large, it can create the look of chubby cheeks. Buccal fat removal in Manhattan will slim down your cheeks to accentuate the cheekbones and jawline for a slimmer, rejuvenated look.

What is Buccal Fat Removal?

Buccal fat removal, also called cheek reduction surgery, is a plastic surgery procedure that removes the fat pads in your cheeks. Everyone has buccal fat pads, but some people have larger pads that give the face a heavy appearance, even if you are otherwise in good health and a stable weight. Buccal fat removal will redefine your facial features and help you feel more confident in your appearance.

Buccal Fat Removal Candidate

Healthy men and women who feel they have too much fullness in their cheeks are great candidates for buccal fat removal. Patients who already have thin or narrow faces should not receive buccal fat removal since it will create a gaunt appearance. Dr. Diktaban will also discuss your medical history with you at your consultation to determine whether you have any underlying health issues that could impact your candidacy.

What Happens During a Buccal Fat Removal Procedure?

During buccal fat removal surgery, you may receive general anesthesia or local anesthesia, depending on your comfort level and whether other procedures are being performed at the same time. Dr. Diktaban will make small incisions on the insides of your cheeks and will gently remove the buccal fat pads through these incisions. The incisions will be closed with dissolvable sutures and will be virtually invisible since they are inside your mouth.

Results and Recovery

After buccal fat removal, swelling, bruising, and numbness around the incision sites are common. The swelling and discomfort will gradually improve within a few weeks (most of the swelling will have gone down in the first week). For the first two days, you should stick to a liquid diet while your incisions close. Total recovery time can take a few months before you see the final results.
