What is Botox?

Botox is a form of botulinumtoxin Type A, which is a type of bacteria that can effectively block nerve impulses when injected into a muscle or gland. This has a couple benefits— firstly, it can relax furrowed muscles that contribute to the appearance of sagging or wrinkles in areas like the brow or eyes. Secondly, it can reduce facial muscle movements that contribute to creases and lines over time. The overall result is a more youthful, rejuvenated look without incisions or downtime.

Botox Candidates

The best candidates for Botox are those looking for improvement in mild signs of aging like frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead creases and neck bands. These are often caused by repeated movement over a lifetime, leading to a tired, angry or aged appearance. Certain medical conditions can mean that you’re not a good candidate for Botox, so Dr. Diktaban will discuss your history during a consultation. Additionally, if you have more severe signs of aging, you may be a better candidate for surgical procedure like a facelift or brow lift. In many cases, Botox can be even more effective when combined with dermal filler treatments.

What Happens During Botox Treatment?

Botox requires a quick injection session at our state-of-the-art office. Because everyone has a different level of tolerance, we can supply a topical anesthetic. Once you’re comfortable, the product is carefully injected into each individual muscle causing unwanted movements. Overall, this process can take as little as fifteen minutes, after which you can return to your regular schedule.

Results and Recovery

You can expect some redness and minor swelling at the injection sites for around one day after treatment. You may experience some bruising, which fades over the course of a week or so. It can take around one week for your full results to emerge as the product takes effect, during which you should avoid massaging the area. Botox can last for between three and six months, after which you can return for re-treatment at our Manhattan office.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I maintain my Botox results?

The best way to maintain your Botox results is through effective skincare products and professional skincare treatments. During your consultation, our team can create the right anti-aging regimen for you.

When is the best age to get Botox?

Everyone ages at different rates and gets Botox for different reasons. In your 20s and 30s, Botox can be a great way to prevent dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles caused by facial movements. In your later decades, Botox can be a great non-surgical way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and put off the need for a more invasive surgical procedure. Once signs of aging begin to bother you, Dr. Diktaban can recommend your best options for Botox and other cosmetic treatments.

How many units of Botox do I need?

You’ll need differing amounts of Botox based on factors like the strength of the targeted muscle, how severe your signs of aging are, and what sort of cosmetic outcome you’re hoping for. For this reason, it’s important to find an expert Botox injector who can customize the right treatment plan for you.

Will I be able to move my face after Botox?

It’s a common myth that Botox ‘freezes’ the face. Although it can prevent muscle movements, an experienced and trained Botox injector can produce natural and flattering results that don’t interfere with your ability to emote as usual. That’s why it’s extremely important to select a reputable provider rather than a cheap one.
