There are few truly effective treatment options on the market for cellulite. Whether it’s skincare products, shapewear, or endless squats, it’s likely you’ve tried your options with few results. Fortunately, the newest injectable treatment on the market can achieve drastic results when it comes to cellulite – and is one of your best options for smooth, tight skin.

What is Qwo?

Cellulite is typically more common in women, and it’s the result of the body’s anatomy.  The anatomy of cellulite is composed of three key elements: thin overlying skin, bulging fat, and constricted fibrous bands. The fat bulges up against the thin skin which cannot hold back the bulging fat.  The fibrous bands interlace the fatty tissue which helps keep the skin attached to the deeper layers.  With cellulite, these fibrous bands constrict or shorten.  In so doing, they pull the thin skin inwardly to create the dimpling. The goal in treating cellulite is to release these constricted fibrous bands.  Cellulite is very common and can be genetic, meaning many women have cellulite even if they’re at a healthy weight.

Qwo® is an FDA-approved injectable designed to target the structural causes of cellulite under the skin. It’s made with enzymes called collagenases which target fibrous collagen bands in the skin which normally bind the skin to the deeper tissues, causing a pocketed appearance. Once these bands are released, the skin smooths out.

Qwo Candidates

Qwo is an exciting new option that can benefit virtually any patient who struggles with the appearance of cellulite. In fact, Qwo’s manufacturer Endo included women of all ethnicities in their clinical trials and found no variation in Qwo’s ability to reduce cellulite based on ethnicity or skin type. Qwo is FDA-approved for treatment of the buttocks, where cellulite is most common. During a consultation with Dr. Diktaban, you can determine the right treatment options for you based on your goals.

What Happens During Qwo Treatment?

Qwo can be administered right in our Upper East Side office. Treatment takes only about 10 minutes and can be performed with the help of a topical anesthetic. Many small, precise injections are placed in the buttocks where the product begins to metabolize the fibrous tissue over time. Once your treatment is complete, you can return to your normal schedule.

Results and Recovery

Most patients need a series of 2-3 treatment sessions, spaced over about 2 months. This achieves best results, with a drastic reduction in the appearance of cellulite on the buttocks. It’s normal to experience some bruising and swelling at the injection sites after treatment, but this subsides quickly. Compared to other cellulite treatments which require invasive techniques, more downtime, and increased cost, Qwo is an extremely worthwhile way to reduce cellulite and feel confident in your skin.
