Most people are familiar with rhinoplasty as a way to make cosmetic or functional changes to the nose. If you’re considering rhinoplasty, you probably have one or both of these goals in mind. What many people don’t know, however, is that the rhinoplasty has become more advanced than ever. Plastic surgeons such as Dr. Diktaban can offer new techniques like preservation rhinoplasty to produce the most natural results possible. Here’s what to know about preservation rhinoplasty and how Dr. Diktaban can help.
What’s the Difference Between Rhinoplasty and Preservation Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty and preservation rhinoplasty are both procedures that can alter the bone and cartilage in the bridge of the nose in order to create a more aesthetically balanced look. However, the main difference is where the bone and cartilage are altered. With traditional rhinoplasty, Dr. Diktaban removes bone and cartilage from the top of the bridge, or the part that you feel when you touch the ridge of your nose. Although a skilled plastic surgeon can produce natural-looking results with this technique, the result may not always look or feel similar to the natural, unaltered bridge of your nose.
Preservation rhinoplasty goes about this problem differently. Rather than removing bone and cartilage from the top of the bridge (or the part that you can touch), it removes bone and cartilage from the base of the nose, or the part that exists in the nose’s deeper structure. This means that the ridge of the nose’s bridge remains unchanged – however, this technique can still adjust the height of the bridge, potentially even more effectively than the traditional rhinoplasty.
What are the Benefits of Preservation Rhinoplasty?
The biggest benefit of preservation rhinoplasty is that it maintains the natural external appearance of the nose’s bridge. If you want an exceptionally natural result but still want to alter the height of your nose, preservation rhinoplasty is a great option. Additionally, preservation rhinoplasty does not interfere with the soft tissues of the nose that are normally impacted by traditional rhinoplasty. This means a shorter recovery and drastically reduced swelling. Finally, when preservation rhinoplasty is performed by a double board-certified plastic surgeon, the results can be much more long-lasting than traditional rhinoplasty and much less likely to require revision.
Am I A Good Candidate for Preservation Rhinoplasty?
You’re a good candidate for preservation rhinoplasty if you want to reduce a hump or bump on your nose’s bridge, or if you want your nose to be less protruding. However, you’re likely not a good candidate for preservation rhinoplasty if you’re looking for a revisional procedure or if you have a deviated septum that needs correction. Only a rhinoplasty expert like Dr. Diktaban can determine if preservation rhinoplasty is your best option, and he’ll discuss your many options during a consultation.
